The Freedom to Fly - by Amy Fitzgerald

The Freedom to Fly

by Amy Fitzgerald.

The Freedom to Fly is a book of poetry that contains roughly fifty poems. In total, the book took nine months to publish.

I had taken up a training course in the Connect Programme in Waterford City and during class I developed an interest in writing my own book. Roughly 25-30 of my poems were written during class time and I hadn't anticipated that it would go any further until about the 20th poem, at which point I gained interest in sharing my work with other people.

After the course was over, I published one of my poems on Facebook and a publisher contacted me inquiring if I had written any more poems.

I met up with the publisher shortly after and he expressed a lot of interest in my work. I presented him with all the poems I had written and asked if I was interested in publishing all of my work publicly. From there on it was a nine-month time-frame in which my work was printed and published in September 2013.

Since then, my book has sold nearly 1,000 copies and there are still more being sold as of October.

The latest launch of my book was in the Irish Wheelchair Association Centre, Kilkenny City on Friday, 11th October 2013 and the book is currently being sold for €10.00.
